Haberdashers Place - 1952

Erection date: 1/7/1952

Inscription

Haberdashers Place was destroyed by enemy action on 11th May 1941 and re-built in 1952 when on first July this stone was laid by the Master of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, E. A. Last-Smith, Esq.
Clerk: H. Prevett
Builder: W. Phillips & Son
Architect: Terence C. Page, F.R.I.B.A.

Site: Haberdashers Place (2 memorials)

N1, Pitfield Street

The 1802 stone has clearly been saved from the ruin, and the 1952 plaque modelled on it. Nicely done. The close-up picture was taken from the centre of the little roundabout and the scent from the roses was delightful. With so little traffic you could close your eyes and be transported to a country cottage garden.
