{This translates as:}

A wise man looks ahead.

In recognition of the hospitality received on this hill during the 4 years 1942-1946 AD and of so many beneficiaries, the Council of Malvern College arranged for this clock to be installed In the year of our lord 1950.

Take with a grateful hand every hour that God gives you.

Our Latin consultant, David Hopkins, provided the translation and adds: "The quote at the top, 'Sapiens qui prospicit', is the school motto of Malvern College. The quote at the bottom, 'Take with a grateful hand every hour that God gives you', is a quotation from the Roman writer Horace. It continues 'and do not defer life’s comforts, so that wherever you find yourself, you may say you have lived freely'."

For almost 4 years during WW2, while their buildings were occupied in war work, Malvern College was housed with Harrow School, which nowadays appears to occupy most of Harrow, but its central buildings are here.
