{A laurel wreath surrounding the entwined letters: H B.}
To commemorate the services of Henry Burt, J. P. who was the originator of the proposal to purchase the Palace and Park for the people. His courage, assiduity, and strenuous efforts were rewarded and on the 18th of May, 1901, the Park was opened to the public.
His subsequent services and splendid financial help should here be recorded and his name held in remembrance by all who appreciate this great public possession.
By order of the Trustees, 1921.
