This stone laid by Richard Avery, founder and President of the People's Gospel Mission in 1886. This poor man cried and the Lord heard him and delivered him from all his troubles.

On the south face of this building are 4 inscribed stones laid by (left to right) JC Randall, Richard Avery, a friend, MJ Lynn.

Searching on the web all we can find out about the People's Gospel Mission is that there was another at 244 Hackney Road (1887-1895).
