Site: Printing (1 memorial)

EC4, Magpie Alley

Until the 1980s Fleet Street and the area around used to be dominated by the newspaper industry: the journalism and the printing.  These tiles tell the history of the printing trade.

However, this memorial defeats us. One entire wall of this longish passage is covered with tiles giving the story of printing, in pictures and text. Life's too short to transcribe all this. Nor can we find a website that covers it, so there's only one solution if you want more details - go yourself. Update 2012:  contacted us via Facebook; there you will find more info and some good pictures of some of the tiles.

2023: visited the alley and usefully reports: "The panels were added in 2001, as part of a 1990s planning agreement to rebuild the former Daily Mail printing house into conventional offices."
