Erected in memory of S. L. Swaab Esq. His knowledge like a spring of refreshing water flowed ever during life for the relief of the suffering.

The site says it was erected in March 1888 and was the gift of Mrs Swaam (surely a mistype for Swaab) and cost £115.0.0.

Swaab died at 266 King Street, a short distance to the west, on the north side of this road.
